An Honest Misteak

An entry to the 2021 Game-Maker's Took-Kit Game Jam!

Synopsis

Decades of sophisticated biological engineering have culminated in a miraculous solution to global hunger: self-propagating lab grown meat. The breakthrough came when the meat was bestowed with intelligence and a sense of altruistic benevolence. For years this new brand of intelligent meat would roam Earth efficiently converting less palatable resources (such as plastic waste) into delicious t-bone steaks! When they came across a human in need, they would selflessly pull off parts of their being to provide a succulent meal.

It seemed like world peace was at hand! Alas, no good deed goes unpunished, and the aching jealousy of a newly ostracized group flashed over into violence. Nobody had expected the cows to strike back against the new line of lab-grown meats! They were bitter about the loss of their best line of work (they too had been genetically augmented with an altruistic drive to feed the world), and then chose to lash out the only way they knew how: with their fission powered laser eyes.

Indeed, you are a writhing sentient mass of lab-grown meat, and it is your duty to survive the increasingly intense waves of bovine terrorism.

Mechanics

WASD to move.

Point and click to frisbee a T-bone steak with lethal force.

Dead cows drop fresh steaks.

Walk over fresh steaks to replenish your body.

If you get hit by a cow's laser blast, one of your steaks will get cooked and fall away.

Tied Together

Developer's statement on the thematic applicability of An Honest Misteak: In this game I tied together two distinct resources: health and ammunition. This creates a new gameplay dynamic where accuracy is key: missing a shot is just as bad as getting hit by the enemy!

fun game and intense, can play for hours. recommend in next release to upgrade the type of cow steaks (eg, waygu, t-bone, NY strip, sirloin) to appeal to a larger group of audiences. not safe 4 kidZ.

I have never been as terrified as I was just now when 100 cows were shooting their lasers at me. This game is seriously so fun! And it's also super creative how you tied health and ammo together!
